Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also a seasoned public speaker. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos which include commentary on the depictions of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular culture narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes of women that exist in pop media, she is also working to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a well-known public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by feminist issues, gender and gender equality since a early stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level, she created her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games but was the target of an online campaign to harass her. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. In fact, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critic. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
